Vicky Negus, a SNAP policy advocate with the Mass Law Reform Institute, said the work requires a technical knowledge and understanding of complex systems — whose presence will be missed.“This is not glamorous work,” she said. “It runs the real risk of harming people in every single city and town in Massachusetts and across the country.”

WGBH, Cuts at USDA in Boston could weaken New England food security
Late last month, the US Department of Government Efficiency took a hatchet to the USDA workforce. Among the casualties were 6 workers in the Northeast regional office, which oversees a wide range of food distribution programs across the New England states. While the number seems small, those workers are a vital linchpin in the delivery of SNAP, WIC, school meals, and emergency programs that provide food to area food banks and food pantries.
Those staff cuts will cause harm to the most vulnerable people in our communities, and the far-reaching effects have the potential to damage the economy for nearly every town and city in Massachusetts and the New England region.
