Get your dialing fingers ready. This morning, we’re sharing the text of an email from Community Legal Aid’s Gina Plata Nino and asking you to take action, and then share widely.  The numbers listed below will connect you with YOUR senator, so you don’t even have to find a phone number!

Right now, a key lever to get relief to millions of Americans will be through Congressional action. The most important thing you can do on that front is call your senators’ offices on Monday — primarily if you have more moderate or conservative senators — and urge them to quickly pass the bipartisan Coronavirus Response Act as is, with no changes. While the strong bipartisan vote in the House is immensely helpful, it is not a given that the Senate will pass this bill.

Also, make clear that you expect Congress to take further steps to address the burgeoning economic fallout from the virus, including providing timely and targeted assistance to low-and middle-income households.

You can text COVID19 to 747464 or call 1-844-633-2048.

When you get on the phone with your senators’ offices, here is a sample message you can deliver:

“Hello, my name is [your name] and I am from [city/town]. Please tell Senator [name] to vote immediately for the House coronavirus response bill AS IS. It protects people most in need and so protects all of us. Immediate paid sick leave, unemployment insurance, nutrition aid, more Medicaid funds for states, free testing and treatment, and protections for health care and other workers are essential. The House bill is a necessary start — you must do more in the coming days, such as expanding unemployment insurance, preventing eviction, providing more state fiscal relief and nutrition aid, and other timely and targeted assistance to low- and middle-income households to help minimize the economic damage from the virus. But in the meantime, please vote for the House package now.”
