The Worcester Food and Active Living Policy Council (FALPC) will be hosting a photo contest as part of this year’s annual Food Day celebration.

Food Day is a nationally recognized event that aims to inspire Americans to change their diets and food policies.   Worcester FALPC is a network of local organizations that promote policy that increase access to healthy foods and active lifestyles in order to make the city a more vibrant and healthy place to live.  Throughout the month of September, FALPC will be accepting photo entries that highlight the Worcester Food Movement.

This will be the third year that Worcester hosts a Food Day Celebration.   Last year, activities included with cooking demonstrations, herbal remedies, healthy recipes, a Kidz Zone,  information on WIC and SNAP, health information on flu shots, a diabetes and heart health.

Contest Details

This year, the festivities will feature a photo contest in which FALPC will be accepting photos on their social media outlets: Instagram, Facebook and Twitter via the application WooBox.  Entries can be made under five categories:

  1. Making Healthy Eating Fun”,
  2. Preserving Cultural Traditions”,
  3. Growing Your Own”,
  4. Buying Local” and
  5. Fighting Hunger”.

All photos must be related to both Worcester and food in some way.  Contestants will be able to provide a short description of their photo and its connection to these topics.

Prizes

The top three photos in each category will be printed, framed and displayed in a public exhibit the week of October 20th.  During this time, winners will be invited to a formal showing of their work, which will be open to the public.  Following Food Day celebrations, contest winners may keep their framed photos.

Entries

Entries will be accepted via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and contestants will need to have one of these accounts to submit a photo.  To enter a photo through your Facebook account, visit http://woobox.com/dke5vy.  To enter utilizing Twitter or Instagram, simply use #woofoodday2014.  Each contestant may enter up to one photo in each category (maximum five photos) via Instagram, Facebook or Twitter between the dates of September 2nd and 30th.  Please indicate the category under which you are entering in the photo description.  All entries must be complete.  Inappropriate material or comments will be removed.

Selection

Winners will be selected through participant votes and panel selection.  The first place entry in each category will be determined through votes alone, however, second and third places will be determined ultimately by FALPC.  Public voting on all photos will be open from September 2nd until October 10th.
