Background:
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program generally does not allow the purchase of prepared meals with SNAP funds. For some SNAP recipients, this presents a difficulty because they may either lack the resources or the ability to prepare their own meals. The Restaurant Meals Program (RMP) allows states to establish programs that allow the elderly, unhoused, and people with disabilties to purchase hot meals at authorized restaurants. This program is working and expanding food access in many states around the country. HD 2646 would establish an RMP for Massachusetts.

Thank you for joining the Worcester Food Policy Council in our battle against food insecurity! As of May 6th, a total of 5 Representatives and Senators have co-sponsored Bill HD 2646 to establish a restaurant meals program as a part of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)! Our goal is to continue building momentum for the bill through some quick follow-up actions.
