Tomorrow, Thursday Sept 13, is National Hunger Action Day.We’re asking all of you to speak up to protect and defend SNAP!

As hundreds of food banks and anti-hunger advocacy groups rally to fight hunger in their communities, Congress is debating the future of two of the most important anti-hunger programs in the country, SNAP and TEFAP as they seek to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the Farm Bill. As Liz Sheehan Castro notes below, the decisions they make will affect how struggling families put food on their tables. Please read Liz’ letter, and make that phone call to protect SNAP.

Take Action Today!
Greetings!

Thursday Sept. 13th is National Hunger Action Day. Speak up to protect and defend  SNAP!

Currently Congress is considering the future of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) as they look to reconcile the House and Senate version of the Farm Bills. The decisions they make during this process will impact how families struggling with hunger will be able to put food on the table.

The Feeding America network of 200 food banks and 60,000 community partners, including pantries and meal programs, are working with anti-hunger advocates across the country to bring our voices to Washington DC and make sure the people we proudly serve can get the food they need to feed their families.
Don’t let Congress take food away from our children, seniors and veterans – our friends, our neighbors, our families.

What Can You Do?

Call 1-888-398-8702 and tell Congress to protect SNAP in the Farm Bill.

When you call, you’ll hear a message and then will be asked to enter your zip code to be connected to your representative.
*If Congressman McGovern is your representative, please know he is on the Conference Committee, which is the group of people working to develop a compromise Farm Bill between the House and Senate versions. We know he will do a great job, but he still needs to hear from constituents!
*If you are calling Congressman Neal, Congresswoman Tsongas, or anyone else in Massachusetts, urge them to ONLY support a Farm Bill that protects and promotes SNAP.
When you are connected to your Congress person’s office, let them know:
  • I am a constituent and I stand with the Feeding America network of food banks, including the Worcester County Food Bank.
  • Please protect SNAP – a critical program that helps millions of children, seniors, and veterans across the country – by supporting the Senate SNAP provisions of the Farm Bill.
  • I’m counting on our representative to pass a strong Farm Bill that protects and strengthens federal nutrition programs and helps people experiencing hunger across Massachusetts and the U.S..
SNAP puts food into the hands of nearly 42 million Americans, half of them under the age of 18. This food assistance program feeds 12 times as many people in America than the entire Feeding America network of 200 food banks that Worcester County Food Bank is part of.  Making cuts to this program is simply cruel – and will leave our fellow Americans struggling to find their next meal.

Make your voice heard for ALL the families struggling with hunger today!

Thank you so much for YOUR commitment to ending hunger in Worcester County!
