A Message from Martha: SaveSNAP from Congressional FY18 Budget Resolution Cuts

Dear Food Advocates!

News reports from Capitol Hill indicate that the Republican majority in both chambers is trying to pass an FY18 budget resolution -primarily to use as a vehicle for tax reform for the wealthy and corporations. They are now expected to vote on the House budget resolution this Thursday, October 5th. This budget could force deep cuts to SNAP, School Meals Programs, Medicaid, Medicare, Housing, Education and much more that would make it harder for families across the country to make ends meet.

Here in Massachusetts, our Congressional reps are opposing these cuts – and they should hear from you to help keep their resolve strong. More importantly, though, representatives in other states need to hear from THEIR constituents asking them to Vote NO on the FY18 House Budget Resolution. That’s where you come in. If you have friends and family in other states who care about food security and accessibility, they need to know what their representatives are about to do. We’re asking you to let them know, and to ask them to please, please, please call their elected representatives in the House and urge them to oppose the proposed budget cuts.

ACTION NEEDED:

Please make TWO calls.

  • One to your Member of Congress if they are from the MA Delegation to support and thank them for fighting against the FY18 Budget Resolution.
  • One or more to family and friends in another state urging them to call their Members of Congress to Vote No on the House Budget Resolution.

Please share with them this script.

Dear Rep <<< THEIR NAME>>>>>

My Name is <<<<YOUR NAME>>>>>.  As a passionate constituent from <<<TOWN>>> in your district,

I am calling to ask you to Vote NO on the House Budget Resolution:

It slashes trillions from Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP (aka Food Stamps) and School Meal Programs that ensure that our students succeed. It also cuts public funding for income assistance, child care, education, housing and more, all to pay for tax cuts for the rich and corporations.

Please Vote No to protect working families and the most vulnerable in our community. I really value your support.

Thank you for your time,

<<<<YOUR NAME >>>>>>>

AFTER THE HOUSE VOTE:

  • Reach out to your Members of Congress to comment on their vote and hold them accountable.
  • Issue a press statement.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. (Please call me with any questions)
